Olivia Amato Explains Why She Left Finance For Fitness: In the middle of practically any Olivia Amato workout, when you’re sweating profusely and not feeling your strongest. Amato will turn to the camera and declare, “you look wonderful!” with a huge smile.

That infectious cheerfulness has won her the title of Peloton’s “#1 hype lady” (it’s even in her Instagram bio). Others may not be aware that Amato, a New Yorker, just made a career flip that transformed her life forever.

Olivia Amato Is Came From Little Town

A lot more about my background, but I want to make it about the other side because that’s who it’s about,” Amato tells Shape. It is very much my teaching style – it’s not about me, it’s about us.

“I grew up in a little town ” she explains. He felt he had the perfect solution when she told her Fordham guidance counselor she was strong with math and liked people.

“He said, ‘Oh! Wall Street! “Sales!” My portfolio classes went well, and I got good grades. It’s cool to be good at something at first. It was exhilarating because there was so much to learn and so many people to learn from. And I could build relationships with them and be their go-to person.”

She landed her first full-time job following graduation from Fordham in 2014 after a successful senior finance internship. “It wams just a fantastic experience,” she recalls. I was at the desk, and they told me I couldn’t leave for 12 hours, even to use the restroo.

No way do I have that much passion for these markets. I started with fixed income and then moved on to equity sales, which were more relatable because they were stocks like Lululemon, Peloton, or Whole Foods. But staring at numbers all day wasn’t enough for me.”

Amato couldn’t see a way out. She committed to a profession in finance, but she felt stuck as the thrill and fun left her life. ‘Why did we send you to college?’ my parents asked. Nobody knows.” “I was thinking, ‘I can’t do that,'” she adds.

As long office days became more difficult to bear, Amato discovered imaginative ways to reintroduce movement and athleticism. Her clients now go to workout courses with her.

Then I’d take a group to a Barry’s [Bootcamp] session, and we’d chat about the markets and what was going on instead of going to dinners and concerts.” So that was the part of my week I looked forward to during the day.

Why She Cried All Day

I like my clients, but it’s because I want to exercise my body, and I’m motivating many individuals to do something they typically wouldn’t do, which helps them better themselves.

Reintroducing fitness into Amato’s life rekindled a flame. “I became obsessed,” she says. My Equinox membership allowed me to go into an empty spin room and rehearse by myself. “I’d bring buddies in.” Amato wasn’t rehearsing for anything in particular, but she started daydreaming about leading a group workout.

In class, I would think, ‘I could be up there!’ But then there’s that other voice saying, “but what are you going to say, do, or talk about?” So I was trying to prove to myself that it was authentic. It did.

After vacation, she cried all Sunday, not wanting to return to work. “The next day, I was like, I’m not doing this.” It was simply another Monday when I entered, and I was like, “I can’t.” I wrote my resignation. Were I to wake up every day miserable and doing something I didn’t want to do, I’d be miserable.”

“Go for a trip around the block, grab yourself some bacon, egg, and cheese,” her boss advised Amato. Doing so made her more certain of her choice. “We were on good terms, but people were wondering, ‘What are you doing?’

Amato had landed a teaching job at a boxing studio shortly before quitting her finance career in 2016. “My life was a whirlwind for almost a year and a half after I resigned,” she adds. We signed with Wilhelmina [a modeling agency] and had no idea what we were doing. ‘Fake it until you make it was my life except I could motivate people. “It was a mess.”

But Amato maintained following her instincts, researching new ways to improve her fitness, such as marathon training and certifications. Peloton teacher Rebecca Kennedy invited Amato to audition (fun fact: Kennedy can also be credited for recruiting Selena Samuela to the Peloton team).

She aced her audition and taught weightlifting, running, and cycling programs within a year, gaining fans and admirers.
As she walks down the street, tidying up after her dog Tobi, she hears, “Olivia, I love you!” The fact that we’re reaching and assisting more people is still weird and exciting to me. That surprised me.”

Amato Still Uses Those Goods To Get By

So far, Amato has had the chance to work with businesses she already loves and become a different kind of hype girl. For example, working with Athletic Greens and Nuun would’ve been unthinkable five years ago when I was sitting at a desk.” It’s been great.”

Amato still uses those products to get through her hectic days, especially when she’s not feeling well enough for an early lesson. “I taught a 45-minute interval to run this morning, and I had to pump myself up because it was longer,” she explains.

“I start every run with a with caffeine because it gives me that extra boost.” So I do the Athletic Greens because it gives me the vitamins and minerals I need to recover properly after class.”

Amato has developed various invigorating methods to prepare for long days. “If I know I’m going to snooze in the morning, I don’t let myself do it,” she explains. “I put both feet on the floor, think about something I’m grateful for, happy about, or looking forward to, and then stand up and go.”
