Introduction

Motivation enhancement theory is based on the law of effect in which conduct is selected by its consequences and overlooks the individual’s inner state.

B.F. Skinner and his associates suggested strengthening the theory of motivation. It states that the behavior of the individual depends on its effects.

Also it is based on the “law of effect” – this law assumes that behaviors are selecting according to their impact. It means that behaviours of individuals with positive results tend to repeat.

Strengthening Positively

Positive strengthening implies a positive response when a person shows positive and necessary conduct.

For instance – praise an employee immediately for coming to the job early. It increases the likelihood of excellent behavior.

The reward is, but not necessarily, a positive strengthening. The reward  says for a positive enhancement when and only when employee behavior improves.

Positive strengthening stimulates behavioral occurrence. The higher the reward, the higher the reinforcement value it has, should note.

Negative Strengthening

Negative strengthening requires an employee to reward by removing negative/unwant effects. Positive and negative reinforcement use to increase the behavior desire.

Punishment

Strengthening penalties entail eliminating positive consequences so that the likelihood of unwant behavior in the future will lower. Sentences mean, in other words, that the undesirable effect of unwanted conduct apply.

If an employee is suspend for failing to comply with organizational rules, a positive strengthening from an alternative source may equal punishment.

Extinction

Enhanced extinction means the absence of strengthening. In other words, extinction entails decreasing the likelihood of unwant behavior by eliminating compensation for this type of conduct.

For instance, if an employee is no longer praised and admired for his excellent work, he may feel no beneficial impact. Unintentionally extinction may reduce the desired behavior.

Reinforcement Theory Implications

The strengthening theory explains how a person learns behavior in detail. Managers who try to motivate staff must make sure that not all employees reward simultaneously.

You have to tell the workers what you don’t do correctly. You must tell employees how positive improvements are achieve.
